Rita Metts — Founder & Lead Attorney

M. Rita Metts has been an Attorney and Certified Mediator for more than 30 years. She owns the Metts Law Firm, LLC located in Columbia, SC. The firm represents clients throughout the state of South Carolina in the areas of Automobile & Truck Accidents, Divorce & Custody, Wrongful Death & Medical Malpractice, Workers’ Compensation, Probate & Estates, and Social Security & Veteran Disability claims.

In addition to her law practice, she is an Adjunct Business Law Professor at Benedict College, a Real Estate Broker, a certified Victim Services Provider, and a Board Member for Vital Connections of the Midlands, which provides early care and education services for at risk families throughout South Carolina.

She began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender with the Newberry County Public Defender’s Office and Managing Attorney with the Pyatt Law Firm, before opening her own law firm. She is a recently retired Magistrate Judge for Richland County after 14 years of service and retired Town Attorney for the Town of Carlisle in Union, South Carolina after 15 years of service.

Attorney Metts is a native of South Carolina and earned her B.S. degree from the University of South Carolina and her J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is admitted to practice in South Carolina Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court.
